Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is organising a Musical Evening of Rabindra Sangeet by “Shurer Dhara” at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre Auditorium, Gulshan-1, Dhaka at 6:30 pm on Saturday, 9 May, 2015.
Shurer Dhara, a prominent musical institution of Dhaka, was founded in 1992 by Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, who is a distinguished alumna of Viswa-Bharati (the renowned university founded by Rabindranath Tagore), a professor of Music at the University of Dhaka and an accomplished exponent of Rabindra Sangeet.
Within a few years of its founding, Shurer Dhara was able to establish itself as a premier music school and a cultural centre of Dhaka. Its annual open-air program observing ChaitraSankranti, the Bengali year-end, is a spectacular presentation to a gathering of a few thousand spectators. Shurer Dhara’s students, teachers and alumni are invited to perform in major social and cultural events at home and abroad.
The aim of Shurer Dhara is furthering the spread of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s great ideals of love, peace and human values. Guided by his thoughts and their application they try to nurture young minds to attain these values.
