The 95th anniversary of birth of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day was celebrated at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington on Tuesday (17 March) amid patriotic zeal and fervor.
To celebrate the historic day, the embassy chalked out elaborate programmes that includes discussion on life and works of the great leader and drawing and essay writing competition for children and offering special prayer.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin made welcome address while the messages of the President, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read out at the function.
Ambassador Ziauddin in his statement said that, the 17th March is vitally important in our national life as Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign nation because of Bangabandbhu’s relentless struggle, uncompromising leadership and sacrifice.
To mark the occasion, a documentary film depicting the life and work of the Father of Nation since the 1952 Language Movement to the reconstruction of the post-independence Bangladesh was screened at the Bangabandhu Auditorium. Officials of the embassy, leaders of Awami League and a good number of children attented the show.
The Presidents and the General Secretaries of USA chapter of Awami League, Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia and eminent Bangladeshi personalities participated in the discussion.
Yasmeen Ziauddin, the wife of the Ambassador, distributed prizes and certificates among the winners of the drawing competition titled Beautiful Bangladesh and essay competition on Bangabandhu: Emergence of Bangladesh.
The Ambassador cut a cake in celebration of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
