Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services expresses its utmost gratitude to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the withdrawal of the VAT on e-commerce businesses, as well as the continued exemption of income tax for software and ITES companies till 2024.
BASIS President Shameem Ahsan thanked officially to the NBR Chairman Md. Nojibur Rahman at the NBR premises this afternoon during a courtesy meeting. Among others, Uttam Kumar Paul, Secretary General of BASIS, Mustafizur Rahman Sohel, Joint Secretary General of BASIS and Sami Ahmed, Executive Director of BASIS and NBR high officials were present in the meeting.
During this meeting, BASIS president gave the NBR chairman seven different proposals to review, which are: ensuring tax exemption certificate from NBR for IT/ITES companies through easiest way, VAT automation in business houses through locally developed software, inclusion of Alternative Investment Fund in the list of allowable securities so that Provident Fund and Gratuity can be invested in AI fund and withdraw double taxation on venture capitals, issue an executive order to authorize Dhaka Customs House to collect the duty on foreign software being imported through e-Delivery, impose 2% duty on Anti-virus/Security software like database/operating system and development tools, withdrawal of VAT from the sale on locally developed software in the local market and to form of a committee to formulate proper policy on transfer pricing.
The Chairman of NBR listen to the proposals submitted by BASIS delegation with due importance and assured BASIS to consider these recommendations at the earliest.
