The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Conference began in Tehran today. President of Iran Dr. Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the two day long conference.
A three member Bangladesh delegation headed by the Minister for Education Nurul Islam Nahid is attending the meeting. The Education Minister delivered his speech today on behalf of Bangladesh.
In his speech Nurul Islam Nahid spoke about the development of Bangladesh and achievement of the government so far in the area of science, technology and innovation. He also urged the NAM member states to develop a reliable framework of action, which will open a new opportunity of cooperation between the developed and developing countries in order to transfer, share and exchange of technologies.
The Education Minister said proper use of information technology can lead to the achievement of expected skills. So National ICT Policy was adopted in 2009 by the present government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a remarkable result of National ICT policy implementation has already been reflected in the daily life of the people.
He also added a National Science and Technology Policy has been formulated and adopted by the Government. It has laid down the directions for Science and Technology based activities and research, institutional and human resource development, dissemination and documentation facilities. The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) determines Science and Technology policies, reviews the activities of different institutions and provides direction towards Science and Technology research and activities.
Bangladesh was elected the vice chairman of the conference.
Mr. Nahid was interviewed by a number of local and international electronic media.
