EU Ambassador and head of delegation Pierre Mayaudon called on Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Wednesday morning at the ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat.
The minister briefed the ambassador on booming media vibrancy in the country. `The introduction of Community and FM Radio in addition to increasing the number of satellite TV channels and newspapers in the private sector by the present government has made Bangladesh media-vibrant’, said Inu.
Mayaudon appreciated government initiatives in media sector including the process of setting up a broadcast commission in consistency with growing electronic media.
The discussion also included freedom and security of the Internet.
Ambassador Mayaudon responded in positive to a comment of minister Hasanul Haq Inu, who is also the President of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF), `We have to address both the Legal and Technical grounds in order to maintain a free and fair Internet for all’.
EU Ambassador observed the digitization of the country under `Digital Bangladesh’ policy as a key-factor for country’s steady growth. Mayaudon also expressed his high hopes on successful launching of Bangabandhu-1 satellite in the orbit expected by June 2017.
