Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali today attended the ASEAN Flag Raising Ceremony at the Royal Thai Embassy organised by the ASEAN Dhaka Committee (ADC) to commemorate the 48th Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN in 1967. The Heads of the Missions of the ASEAN countries and diplomats were also present at the ceremony.
The Foreign Minister delivered a speech highlighting the ASEAN and its advancement as a vibrant regional organization in terms of political security, socio-cultural and economic integration. In his speech, he highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to enhance the interactions with the ASEAN countries.
He congratulated the ASEAN member countries on this joyous occasion and reiterated the importance to work hand in hand for the peace and security of the region.
The ADC, which consists of eight member countries of ASEAN resident in Dhaka, was officially established on 12 September 2013. The ADC aims to strengthen ties between ASEAN collectively and Bangladesh. To date, the ASEAN Secretariat’s inclination is to accord priority to the formation of ASEAN Committees in Third Countries that are ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners.
Though Bangladesh is yet to be a Dialogue Partner, the decision of the ASEAN Secretariat for the establishment of the ADC attests the importance that ASEAN attaches to its relations with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh attaches great importance to close cooperation with ASEAN countries and has regularly been participating in the various ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) activities as a member since 2006.
