Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has said, Bangladesh will always remember the humanitarian support provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to the Bengali people during our War of Liberation in 1971. The Minister said this while ICRC delegation Head Christine Cipolla called on him at his Foreign Ministry offfice today.
Recalling that Bangladesh was one of the first countries in South Asia to ratify a number of International Humanitarian Law instruments including the Statute of the International Criminal Court, the Convention against Torture (CAT) and the Arms Trade Treaty, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed the strong commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Government to the promotion and protection of International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
The Head of Delegation of ICRC thanked the Foreign Minister for taking the initiative to form the National IHL Committee. The Foreign Minister congratulated ICRC on its 150th Anniversary and look forward to working closely with ICRC in hosting an International Conference on Prevention of Genocides in Bangladesh in the near future.
