GIZ’s effort to improve the existing Health Information System in Bangladesh

‘mPossible: Regional Health Informatics Conference’ successfully launched ! On June 23-24, 2014, the first Regional Conference on Health Informatics was held in Dhaka. An array of national and international experts from the fields of ‘Public Health and Health Informatics’ participated in the conference.

The conference was hosted by the Management Information System of the Directorate General of Health Services, with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, World Health Organization and UBS Optimus Foundation. The conference placed special emphasis on ‘e-&m-Health Innovations’ related to ‘Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health’ (RMNCH) issues.

The event was a successful opportunity for all related stakeholders to engage and consider the various health innovations found in South Asia, including Bangladesh. Mr. Mohammad Nasim, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, graced the workshop as the Chief Guest. Mr. Zahid Maleque, MP, Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare was the Special Guest. Prof. Dr. Deen Mohd. Noorul Huq, Director General of Health Services; Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Additional Director General (Planning & Development) and Director, Management Information System of the Directorate General of Health Services, were among the notable dignitaries attending the workshop. The conference focused on highlighting achievements and lessons learned, advocating for a culture of information use and sharing.

It also worked on promoting the need for harmonized efforts, both from state and non-state actors, in the continuous efforts to develop health information system enhancing maternal and newborn health facilities.
