Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu is scheduled to return from London tomorrow (25 June) early morning.
The minister attended the first Commonwealth Domain Name System Forum- 2014 conference on 19-20 June and a high level government meeting of the weeklong 50th Public Meeting of ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) on 23rd in the UK capital.
Inu stressed on implementation of .bd (DOT BD) domain for Bangladesh while he emphasized on development of Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) for each country in his sessions.
In the meetings, the minister reiterated his stand for democratization and globalization of Internet governance system which until now is a US monopoly.
Vice-president of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) Dr Akram H Chowdhury and member of BIGF and Bangladesh Computer Association Afroza Haq also attended the conference.
The first Commonwealth Domain Name System Forum was organized by Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) in assistance with Internet Cooperation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) at its 50th public meeting.
UK’s Internet registry organization-Nominet and the US-based organization public Internet registry (PIR) also were part of the organizers.
The issues on innovation of domain names, investment and security, cyberspace management, Transition of US Stewardship of IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), Strengthening ICANN accountability, generic top-level domain (gTLD) and their social impact in Commonwealth countries and beyond were discussed at length in the meetings.
The wrap up cocktail of ICANN 50 will be on 26th, Thursday.
