Internet Leadership Workshop held at Dhaka. With a vision to increase enrolment in internet as well as to promote Internet based commodities and services, Bangladesh Internet Week 2015 will be kicked off on September 5 across the country and will continue to September 11.
Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Information and Communication Technology Division and Grameenphone jointly organised the six day internet literacy carnival. Along with three major expos taking place in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet, this unprecedented internet festival will also be held in 487 upazilas throughout Bangladesh.
The country’s foremost e-commerce companies, mobile apps development companies, web portals, device manufacturers as well as all internet products and services companies will be taking part. There will be numerous events throughout Bangladesh Internet Week. To achieve the goal of the mega technology event, a pre-event programme titled ‘Internet Leadership Workshop’ to skill up the ICT focal person of Upazila, was held at Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium at Kakrail in the capital on Sunday.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as a Chief Guest at the workshop with future digital leaders of the country who came from mass line. Harunur Rashid, Additional Secretary of ICT Division, Russell T. Ahmed, BASIS Senior Vice President and Convener of Bangladesh Internet Week, Nehal Ahmed, Director (Marketing), Grameenphone and Ashraf Abir, Director of BASIS talked on stage about Bangladesh Internet Week. Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Deputy Secretary of the ICT Division, Uttam Kumar Paul, Secretary General of BASIS, Sami Ahmed, Executive Director of BASIS, Ishtiaque Hossain Chowdhury, Director of Grameenphone (Stakeholder Relations), General Manager, Azizul Abedin, Deputy Director (Marketing), Tahmid Azizul Haque, Tobarak Hossain Md. Farazie, Marketing Commercial Tonmoy Bashar and Mahbubul Alam were also present at the event.
Chief Guest Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave guidelines to the Upazila representatives to organize the Digital Mela (Fair) as well as Internet Week successfully. He said, “It will be a great milestone for us organizing such kind of technology event simultaneously at 487 Upazila across the country. The maiden Internet Week will get light in participation of Mass people. We, ICT Division, BASIS and Grameenphone, are always ready to stretch hand to success the internet carnival.”
ICT Additional Secretary Hanunur Rashid said, there have been given directives to take necessary steps to organised Digital Mela and Internet Week at Division, District and Upazila level. The focal point workshop will contribute for the event influentially.
BASIS Acting President and Internet Week Convenor Russell T. Ahmed said, “The initiative will influentially contribute for reaching new one crore internet users, which also a bold letter point of BASIS’s One Bangladesh vision. The workshop will try to make skilled internet leaders.”
Grameenphone Marketing Director Nehal Ahmed said, “Grameenphone has been working to build awareness on internet among the people to achieve its Internet for All, ambition. We believe that the participants of this workshop play an important role in building awareness.”
The daylong workshop is organized today (Sunday) in participation from mass line with one ICT Focal Person from each of 487 Upazilas to bring light to the biggest ever internet festival in the country.
The vision of Bangladesh Internet Week, confirmation of participants and visitors, promotion strategy, arranging workshop/seminar/meeting, event documentation, reporting as well as detail on Bangladesh Internet Week got space in the daylong sessions.
The organizers shared that there will be awarded national certification to the 10 upazilas as ‘Best Digital Mela and Internet Week Organizers’ and ‘Best Internet Leader’ at individual level. The Best Internet Leader will be elected from the participant in the daylong workshop.
It’s should be mentioned, there will be three Internet Expo, Bangladesh Internet Week mega version, held at Banani field in the capital from September 5 to 7, Nankin Bazar in Rajshahi on September 9 and City Indoor Stadium in Sylhet on September 11. Besides, the festival will be celebrated at 487 Upazillas from September 5 to 11 in participation with all Union Digital Centres.
