Two-days’ high level retreat on Every Woman Every Child has started in New York on 14 May.
State Minister for Health & Family Welfare of Bangladesh Zahid Malek participated in the Every Woman Every Child high level retreat hosted by the UN.
Mr. Malek highlighted the success of Bangladesh in the area of reducing maternal mortality and child mortality, success in woman empowerment, female education & access to information for a better health. The progress in health and social indicators by Bangladesh, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has put the country as a role model for development in the world.
The success of Bangladesh was highly praised in the program. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged for global cooperation to achieve the targets of Every Woman Every Child strategy.
Zahid Malek stressed the need to increase the institutional delivery, increased nutrition status, meet the unfinished MDGs and importance of adequate reflection of health issue in the Sustainable Development Goals to have a healthy future generation and data collection for maintaining accountability in service delivery.
He also mentioned that government is committed to meet the objectives and is willing to work with the global community for knowledge sharing, resource mobilization and cooperation for addressing the targets of Every Woman Every Child program.
Launched by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in September 2010, Every Woman Every Child is an unprecedented global movement that mobilizes and intensifies international and national action by governments, private sector and civil society to address the major health challenges faced by women and children around the world.
