An Evening of Nazrul Geeti by Ferdous Ara

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh is organising An Evening of Nazrul Geeti by one of Bangladesh’s most popular and revered artists, Mrs. Ferdous Ara, at 6:30 PM on May 17, 2014 at the IGCC, House No. 35, Road No. 24, Gulshan-1, Dhaka.

Mrs. Ferdous Ara is a highly accomplished and versatile Nazrul artist of Bangladesh. She has represented Bangladesh in several acclaimed performances abroad. She has the distinction of performing at an International Gala concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1986. She has also visited New Delhi and Kolkata for performances under ICCR sponsorship in January 2011. She has been adorned with several national awards including the Shilpacharya Jainul Abedin Gold medal.

            Mrs. Ara has been a regular artiste of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television since 1973 and 1974 respectively and has earned plaudits for her artistic excellence.  In 1985, Sargam released her first cassette comprising of 12 Nazrul songs, while in 1986 Nazrul Institute brought out her long play and cassette. Later, 10 more cassettes on Modern Bangla songs by Mrs. Ara were subsequently released that gained instant popularity among the music lovers across the world. In 1999, HMV released her CD comprising of 13 Nazrul songs. After the legendary Bangladeshi Nazrul exponent, Feroza Begum, this was the first CD released of any Bangladeshi Nazrul Geeti artist by HMV. She has also lent her voice in many films, plays and documentaries.

In 2005, HMV released another CD entitled “Tumi ki dakhina paban” by Mrs. Ferdous Ara and an audio cassette and CD on Modern Bangla songs entitled “Tumi aashle je ki bhaalo laage”. Another solo music video of Mrs. Ferdous Ara directed by noted Bangladeshi Film Director, Mr. Khalid Mahmud Mithu has been released in recent times.

Entry is free (No pass required). No bags will be allowed within the IGCC, Gulshan-1 premises during the concert.
