The South Asian Trade Events (SATE) held its press conference on September 14 on its upcoming trade show promoting Asian commerce in November 2012. The press conference, held in Jackson Heights, was attended by journalists representing Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Maldives, all the South Asian countries.
Sange Lama, General Secretary, and Ashraful Hassan Bulbul, Chief Coordinator, gave an overview of the purpose of SATE & Expo 2012 and introduced representatives of each country. Mr. S.M Iqbal, President (SATE) and Mr. Helal Miah (Joint Convener, SATE EXPO 2012) thanked the journalists present at the press conference. Mr. Don (Sri Lanka), Mr. AKA Babul (Expo Chief Advisor) & Mr. Golam Kibria (Director, Bangladesh) were present in the conference.
“Asian buying power in the US is expected to grow from $600 billion in 2012 to $775 billion in 2015,” Mr. Lama stated. “South Asian companies coming to SATE are here to explore opportunities and expand their businesses in the United States. SATE is a meeting ground for US companies to sell their services to a vast market in America. We anticipate $10 million will result from business matchmaking from this event.”
Over 50 industries will be present at South Asian Trade Expo 2012 including: South Asian exporters of jute, knitwear, garments, energy, banking, travel, microfinance, transportation, etc. Member country pavilions featuring national symbols will display each country’s predominant export products
The inauguration for the 3 day expo will be held Friday, November 16th at 4 pm at the facilities of York College in Jamaica, New York. In attendance will be Ambassadors and Consul Generals from all member countries and the U.S. representative from the Department of Trade & Commerce.
The South Asian Trade Expo (SATE) anticipates 150 exhibitors and an estimated 2,000 attendees. It will be held November 16th through November 18th, 2012 at state of the art facilities in the York College Atrium/Fitness Center, located at Liberty Avenue and Guy R. Brewer Blvd, Jamaica, New York. Floor plans and the member country pavilions are completed.
