Speakers at a seminar urged that media should maintain a balance between the quantity and quality of advertisements and program contents. Women should not be used as product in the advertisement.
The seminar was held on “Effects of Excessive Television Commercials and its Contents in Bangladesh’’ at Manarat International University (MIU) auditorium at its Mirpur Campus on Tuesday.
Prof Dr M Zahangir Kabir, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies Chaired the seminar while chief operating officer of SA TV Syed Salahuddin Zaki and media personality Ershad Mazumder spoke on the occasion as special guests.
The Vice Chancellor of MIU Prof Dr Choudhury Mahmood Hasan said Women should not be used as products in advertisement contents anyhow. If we cannot protect the dignity of women, the social system of Bangladesh would be collapsed.
Salahuddin Zaki said none can ignore the importance of advertisements for the survival of media. But ethics should be carried out first. He emphasized on the formulation of a code of conduct for advertisement.
Recollecting his long gathered experience Ershad Mazumder said journalists should report based on authenticity not on imagination or perception.
The Department of Journalism and Media Studies of MIU arranged the seminar where lecturer of the dept Rafiquzzaman, Burhan Uddin, Mamun Uddin and other officials were also present.
