Md. ShahriarAlam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh visited the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York yesterday. Mr. Md. ShameemAhsan,ndc, Consul General and other Officers and Officials of the Mission welcomed him.
While interacting with the Mission officials, he highlighted on the policy priorities of the present Government under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He touched on the consular and welfare issues of the expatriate community which is a priority area of the present government.
The Minister gave a patient hearing to the growing consular needs of the Bangladesh community especially within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in New York. While commending the dedicated services of the Mission officials, he instructed the Mission to devise a special mechanism to address the challenge of issuance of a huge number of MRPs in view of the deadline (24 November,2015) of the hand-written passports.
The Consul General briefly narrated the activities of the Mission and expressed Mission’s gratefulness for the continued support being received from the Government. In this regard, the State Minister assured to extend all-out support from the Ministry. He also underlined on the role of the Mission officials in upholding the image of the country and urged them to work with a team spirit.
The State Minister later visited all the Sections of the Consulate and interacted with the Mission officials. He also enquired about the well-being of the Bangladesh nationals who were present at the Consulate in big numbers. Dr. Abdul Momen, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN and Mr. Mustafzur Rahman, Deputy Permanent Representative and senior officials were present. The guests were served with Bangladeshi cuisine.
It may be mentioned here that the State Minister for Foreign Affairs is currently in New York in connection with an important UN event.
