An estimated 12 million Bangladeshis are currently employed overseas. According to the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report 2019, many of the over 700,000 Bangladeshis who migrate every year through irregular channels risk exploitation and abuse at the hands of smugglers and traffickers. Trafficking is a crime which puts migrant workers at risk in terms of physical and mental abuse, harassment, forced labor, forced and illegal marriages, illegal trade and most importantly losing lives.
In this backdrop, International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, in collaboration with Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) is going to organize a debate campaign titled ‘I Stand Against Human Trafficking’. We cordially invite you to join the opening session of the event tomorrow on 30 July 2019 at 9:00 AM at the Faculty of Business Studies Auditorium, University of Dhaka.
The event will bring together policymakers, academics, development partners, international organizations, media representatives, students, and private sectors, etc. to highlight the important concepts around human trafficking, migration and their impacts. We request you to cover the event.
