A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the departed souls. Special prayer/munajat was offered seeking salvation of the departed souls.

In the evening, a documentary video on the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was screened. Later, the High Commission officials and expatriate Bangladeshis took part in a discussion on the life and philosophy of the Father of the Nation.

At the outset, messages from the Hon’ble President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out. During the discussion, the speakers highlighted Bangabandhu’s great contribution to and supreme sacrifice for Bangladesh’s independence. They condemned the barbaric act of assassination of the Father of the Nation along with his family members on 15 August 1975.

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Singapore, Md. Mustafizur Rahman, in his speech, paid rich tribute to the contribution of Bangabandhu to the independence of Bangladesh. The High Commissioner said that the killers wanted to erase the spirit of liberation war but ultimately did not succeed. He added that the values, ideas, and visions of Bangabandhu will continue to inspire Bangalees forever.

He mentioned that Bangladesh, under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has made significant progress in fulfilling the vision of Bangabandhu to make it a peaceful and prosperous country. Taking lessons from Bangabandhu’s dedicated life, the High Commissioner urged the Bangladeshi expatriates to join and contribute to the ongoing nationalefforts in realizing “Shonar Bangla”-the dream of the Father of the Nation.
