Oxfam has launched a Campaign on Recognising Women’s Contribution in Food Security of Bangladesh on 04 September 2014 at National Press club. Mrs. Shirin Akhter, Honorable Member of Parliament launched the campaign as chief guest, apart from this there were present Monisha Biswas, Manager, Policy & Advocacy, Member Secretary, CSRL, Oxfam, Sharmind Neelormi, Associate Professor, Dept of Economics, Jahangirnagar University; A M Badrul Hasan, Former Economic Minister, Bangladesh Mission to Geneva.
This campaign is being organised to raise mass awareness about women’s contribution made to the national and household level food security, to celebrate and recognise women’s contribution in household and national level and mobilise public opinion towards the recognition of women farmers’ contribution and need for policy measurers to promote women’ rights as farmers. After completion of the campaign 7 female farmers from 7 divisions will be awarded through a national level ceremony. As a role model, those champions would act as the ambassadors for promoting rural small holders women’s rights.
